Safety sign installation tips

For signs to be effective and to fulfil their purpose, they must be placed in an appropriate place so that:

- Attract the attention of the recipients of the information.

- Release the information well in advance so it can be fulfilled. - Be clear and with a unique interpretation.

- Report on how to proceed in each individual case.

- It offers a real possibility of enforcement. The sign shall remain as long as the situation giving rise to it persists and shall be removed when the situation giving rise to it disappears. The presence of signals or any other circumstance which makes them difficult to perceive or understand must be taken into account so as not to affect the effectiveness of the signalling. Where, in a given work area, there is a general need to indicate different aspects of safety, the signs may be placed together at the entrance to that area, grouped by type of sign, for example, prohibition signs separated from hazard warning signs and mandatory signs, provided that such groupings are not likely to lead to misinterpretation or conceal the necessary information to be transmitted. This system does not replace the necessary signalling of specific points of risk which may exist within the work area. Signalling means and devices must be maintained and supervised in such a way that they maintain their intrinsic and functional qualities at all times. Where the signal requires a power source for its effectiveness, it shall have an alternative emergency supply system in case of interruption of the main source. A programme of regular maintenance and reviews should be established to monitor the correct condition and application of the signalling and to ensure that it is regularly cleaned, repaired and/or replaced and that its application is monitored, always taking into account any changes in working conditions. This programme should be included in the general periodic workplace review programme. Prior to its implementation, all workers must be trained and informed so that they are familiar with it. The training and information required for the correct application of signalling in no way replaces the employer's obligation to train and inform workers about the risks laid down in Articles 18 and 19 of Law 31/1995.

Signals may be installed by adhesive, neutral silicone or mechanical means, depending on the surface on which they are to be installed. If you are using adhesives, make sure that the area where you are going to apply it is free of dust, grease, and roughness, as these are bitter enemies of any type of adhesive.

Other installation options, to increase the viewing angle of the signal, would be the installation of banners or panoramic of plastic or aluminum. If you want more information about these supports, you can ask us.
