WHEN WILL WE INSTALL CLASS A OR CLASS B SIGNS?

With the emergence of the new R.D. Not only is the replacement of the signs added, but the need to place category A signs in certain establishments is also mentioned.

The signalling plates both of them firefighting equipment (such as fire extinguishers, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, etc.) evacuation exits, shall comply with the requirements of UNE 23035-4 as regards their characteristics and composition, where we can differentiate between category A and B.

According to the new Royal Decree 513/2017, photoluminescent signage must be installed category A, in all centres carrying out activities described in annex I and of the basic self-protection standard (R.D. This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.

In other cases, signalling plates may be category B.

Here is the list of activities described in the Annex I to the R.D. 393/2007The following:

Industrial activities, storage and research:

  • Establishments where they operate Dangerous SubstancesThe following:
  • Dangerous substances in quantities exceeding those specified in Royal Decree 840/2015: Annex 1, parts 1 and 2, column 2
  • The storage activities of chemical products covered by the Additional Technical Instructions and in the following quantities:
  1. ITC APQ-1, with a capacity greater than 200 m3.
  2. ITC APQ-2, with a capacity greater than 1 tonne.
  3. ITC APQ-3, with a capacity greater than 4 tonnes.
  4. ITC APQ-4, with a capacity greater than 3 tonnes.
  5. ITC APQ-5, category 4 or 5.
  6. ITC APQ-6, with a capacity greater than 500 m3.
  7. ITC APQ-7, with a capacity greater than 200 m3.
  8. ITC APQ-8, with a capacity greater than 200 tonnes.
  • Establishments where they operate explosives: those regulated by Royal Decree 130/2017 approving the regulations on explosives.
  • Management activities Hazardous waste: Activities of collection, storage, recovery or disposal of hazardous waste regulated by Law 22/2011, of 28 July, of contaminated waste and soil.
  • Farms and related industries mining: Those regulated by Royal Decree 863/1985.
  • Installations for the Confined Use of Genetically modified organisms: Those classified as high-risk activities (type 4) in Royal Decree 178/2004.
  • Installations for the production, processing, treatment, storage and distribution of substances or Dangerous biological materials: Facilities containing group 4 biological agents as defined in Royal Decree 664/1997.
  • Industrial and storage activities with a weighted and corrected fire load equal to or greater than 3 200 Mcal/m2 or 13 600 MJ/m2 (high intrinsic risk 8, according to Table 1.3 of Annex I to Royal Decree 2267/2004,

Infrastructure activities of transportThe following:

  • Tunnels state roads: regulated under the R.D. 635/2006.
  • Commercial ports
  • Airports, aerodromes and other airport facilities
  • Stations and switches Land transport: Those with an occupation equal to or greater than 1500 persons.
  • Metropolitan railway lines.
  • Railway tunnels of a length of 1000 m or more.
  • Toll roads.
  • Parking areas for the Transport of dangerous goods by Road and rail.

Activities and energy infrastructure:

  • Facilities Nuclear power and Radioactive
  • Infrastructure Hydraulic (Dams and Dams)
  • Centres or Facilities for the Production of electricity: Those with a rated capacity of 300 MW or more.
  • Installations of high voltage power generation and transformation.

Activities of public and recreational entertainmentThe following:

  • Enclosed buildings: With a capacity or capacity of 2000 persons or more, or with an evacuation height of 28 m or more.
  • Removable or seasonal enclosed installations: with a capacity or capacity of 2500 persons or more.
  • Outdoor: Generally, those with a capacity or capacity equal to or greater than 20,000 people.

Activities health services (Hospitals):

  • with a capacity of 200 beds or more.
  • an evacuation height of 28 m or more, or an occupation of 2000 persons or more.

Activities teachersThe following:

  • With people who are disabled or unable to evacuate on their own.
  • Or an evacuation height of 28 m or more, or an occupation of 2,000 people or more.

Activities public housing (Hotels, hostels, boarding houses, day centres):

  • Persons with disabilities or who are unable to evacuate on their own and affecting 100 or more persons.
  • an evacuation height of 28 m or more, or an occupancy of 2000 persons or more.

All buildings which house commercial, administrative provision of services, or of any other kind, provided that the evacuation height of the building is 28 m or more, or has an occupancy of 2000 persons or more.

The difference between an A-class signal and a B-class signal lies in the amount of input luminescent material. The A-Class has higher luminescence than the B-Class and of course higher cost.

Our Class A high luminescence lighting, recommended for public places, Class B lighting is recommended for workplaces (according to standard UNE 23035/4:2003).

Safety signalling saves lives and is also mandatory by law, the employer is the civil and criminal responsible in an accident with poor signalling.
