FITTING TIPS AND GUIDELINES
Sizing standards vary among different manufacturers, so we recommend ordering the size that normally fits you best. Shoes For Crews footwear aims to maintain consistent sizing across all different styles, and their sizes generally conform to European sizing standards. All available sizes are shown in the Select Size dropdown menu on our website. If you are between sizes, we recommend ordering half a size larger.
- The best time to measure and fit shoes is when your feet are at their largest, usually at the end of the afternoon or in the evening.
- Always try on your new shoes with the same socks that you will typically wear with this type of shoe.
- If you use your own insoles or orthotics inside your shoes, consider the additional volume when fitting new shoes. If your new shoes have a removable insole, remember to take it out and replace it with your own insole or orthotic. Insoles or orthotics affect how a shoe fits.
- Select the shoe style that best fits the shape of your foot.
- Make sure the widest part of your foot (the circumference around the ball) fits comfortably in the widest part of the shoe. Shoes should be as wide as your feet and about a thumb (1/2 inch) longer than your longest toe when standing.
- Move your toes to ensure you have enough space for them.
- Do not select a shoe that is too small to avoid heel slippage. Your shoe should fit comfortably over the top of your foot, even if it is new.
- Boots provide more support and are more durable, but they can be heavier and less flexible at the top of the shoe.
- Try your new shoes at home or on a clean surface for a few minutes before deciding on their fit and comfort.
- Remember that the size of your feet changes as you age, usually getting larger.
- Do not buy shoes that are too tight and expect them to stretch to fit. They won’t.
- Shoes with thick soles provide better cushioning for your feet on hard surfaces.
- A lace-up or Velcro® closure shoe generally fits better than a slip-on or heeled model.
- Low-heeled shoes are more comfortable and secure than high-heeled ones.
MARKINGS
The markings you mention on safety shoes have specific meanings related to occupational safety standards. Here’s an explanation of each:
EN20347
OB (Occupational Basic): This marking indicates that the footwear is suitable for use in a basic work environment but does not have additional protection such as steel toe caps or specific protective elements.
SRC: This code refers to slip resistance levels. SRC is the highest level of certification that ensures the footwear meets slip resistance tests on both ceramic and steel surfaces in wet conditions. This means it offers good traction and reduces the risk of slipping.
ESD (Electrostatic Discharge): This marking indicates that the footwear is designed for people working in environments where the buildup of static electricity can be a problem. ESD shoes help dissipate static electricity and protect both the user and any electronic components they may be handling. These markings are important to ensure the safety and effectiveness of footwear in different work environments.
