BENEFITS

What are epoxy adhesives?
Epoxy adhesives of 3Mtm belong to the class of adhesives called ' structural adhesives', which also includes acrylic and polyurethane adhesives. Epoxy adhesives are generally formulated with reactive components (base and accelerant) that cure when mixed to form a solid plastic material. 3M offers epoxy adhesives in multiple formats to meet your processing needs:

Two parts: in this format, the base and the accelerator are stored separately, allowing the adhesive to have a long service life even when stored at room temperature. These materials are available in duo-pak cartridges for use with the applicator system 3MTM EPXTM, which allows you to dose, mix and apply two-part adhesives simultaneously. For larger scale operations, you can buy them wholesale. Because these parts are mixed at the point of use, you can reduce waste by storing unused material that was not mixed for later work.

Part one: in this format, we make the mixture for you and ship it frozen. He stores it in a freezer, then takes it out and thaws it when he's ready to use it.

Adhesive films: In this one-piece format, we not only make the mixture for you, but we also turn it into a film that you can specifically cut to measure and place on your bonding line. We offer a variety of films in different weights/thicknesses and media. These films must be stored frozen.

In a two-part epoxy adhesive, once the two parts are mixed in the specified ratio, they begin the curing process and offer a limited working time in which the adhesive can be applied and the two surfaces placed as needed. Similarly, in a one-piece adhesive there is a limited time after which the material thaws and during which it must be used. This working or leisure life lasts from a few minutes to 48 hours or more.

In general, epoxy adhesives provide high cutting and peeling resistance and have good environmental resistance. These adhesives are preferred for their ease of use, mechanical strength and chemical resistance. Depending on the formulation, epoxy adhesives can be flexible or rigid, transparent or opaque, fast or slow forging, high or low flow, room temperature or high temperature. Epoxy adhesives are among the strongest adhesives available, making them ideal for jobs that require strength and durability.

APPLICATIONS

You can use this high-performance epoxy adhesive to replace mechanical fasteners, bolts, rivets and welding points. The epoxy adhesive 3MTM Scotch-WeldTM EC-2216 B/A Grey is excellent for bonding a variety of substrates, such as metals and many plastics. Can be dispensed in dual-pack cartridges for use with the applicator system 3MTM EPXTM for minimal waste and professional results. The mixing ratio is 2:3 and the adhesive provides a useful life of 90 minutes to allow it to adjust before forging. The adhesive reaches handling strength in about 12 hours and heals completely in 7 days (at 72 °F/22 °C), but can be accelerated by heat. This epoxy is excellent for creating bonds that can be used at cryogenic temperatures. It is widely used for sealing edges of composite laminates.
