An energy absorber is a component or element of a fall protection system, designed to dissipate the kinetic energy developed during a fall from a certain height.

Energy absorbers are used well integrated with a lanyard, an anchor line, or a fall arrest harness, or in combination with any of these.

The combination of an energy absorber and a lanyard is a subsystem that, when connected to a fall arrest harness according to Standard EN 361, constitutes one of the fall protection systems specified in Standard EN 363.

STANDARDS/REGULATIONS

The Irudek absorbers are classified as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), with the Irudek 360 absorber complying with the regulations.
  • EN 355

USAGE LIMITATIONS

- The equipment must be assigned individually to a person.

- It is recommended that the anchor point where the fall protection system will be fixed is above the user. The anchor point must have a minimum static strength of 12 kN and must comply with the requirements of Standard EN 795.

- Personal protective equipment should not be used by individuals whose health condition may affect the safety of the user under normal usage conditions or in case of emergency.

- Personal protective equipment should only be used by a trained and competent person in its safe use.

SERVICE LIFE

The estimated service life of the equipment is 11 years from the date of manufacture (1 year of storage and 10 years of use). The following factors may reduce the product's service life: intensive use, contact with chemicals, particularly aggressive environments, exposure to extreme temperatures, exposure to ultraviolet rays, abrasion, cuts, strong impacts, or improper use and maintenance.
The mandatory annual inspection will validate the proper functioning of the equipment. It is mandatory that the equipment be examined by the manufacturer or an authorized person at least once a year. In case of a fall arrest, the equipment must be removed from use.
