WHAT IS A FOREST BEATER?
A forest beater is a tool used to combat forest fires, particularly in their initial stages. It consists of a rubber paddle attached to a long handle, usually made of aluminium, which is used to strike and smother flames, depriving them of oxygen. It can also be used to clear vegetation and create firebreaks.
The fire beater or fire extinguishing paddle is a tool designed to extinguish fire by smothering (air displacement), which consists of a metal shaft or rod, ending in a self-extinguishing rubber paddle or beater.
The assembly of the Handle with the Beater or Paddle is perfectly adhered through a vulcanisation process, making the Fire Beater a single immovable assembly.
HOW IS THE FOREST BEATER USED?
The forest beater is used through a direct attack technique on the flames, the objective of which is to smother the fire by eliminating the oxygen that feeds it. For correct use, it must be struck firmly at the base of the flames, pressing the paddle against the fire for about 2 seconds. It is then withdrawn in the direction of the already burned area and the movement is repeated in a rhythmic and controlled manner, progressively covering the fire line.

FOREST BEATER BENEFITS
The assembly of the Handle with the Beater or Extinguishing Paddle is perfectly adhered through a vulcanisation process, making the Fire Beater a single immovable assembly, without the need for rivets, screws or any other fastening element.
BENEFITS OF Forest extinguisher backpack 17.5 litres Approved MATABI
Facilitates rapid attack on incipient fires and support for control operations (defence lines, firebreaks or controlled burns) by being able to alternate jet and spray with a dual-action lance. The harness with lumbar support and waist belt helps to distribute the load during foot travel, and the translucent tank allows water level to be checked at a glance.
FOREST BEATER APPLICATIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON Forest extinguisher backpack 17.5 litres Approved MATABI
Can you alternate between jet and spray during use?
Yes. It features an adjustable nozzle that allows you to adjust the type of outlet to work in jet or spray mode depending on the situation and application distance.
What is the actual range of the water?
As a reference, the jet can reach up to 7 m vertically and 12 m horizontally. In spray mode, the horizontal range is up to 4 m. In practice it may vary depending on pumping and wind conditions.
What benefit does it provide to carry it during foot travel?
The padded straps system, the adjustment to the waist and the lumbar support help to stabilise the backpack and distribute the load, useful when having to walk with the equipment loaded on uneven terrain.
WHAT IS FOREST FIRE RETARDANT?
The MAK5 is a long-term forest fire retardant designed to improve the effectiveness of fire extinguishing and control operations in forest, natural and industrial environments at risk of fire. MAK5 must be diluted in water at a mixing ratio of 1:4 or 1:6 (1 litre of concentrate per 4 or 6 litres of water).
HOW DOES A LONG-TERM RETARDANT WORK?
Its formulation based on ammonium polyphosphates allows it to act directly on plant fuel, reducing its flammability and slowing down fire propagation. When applied to vegetation or combustible surfaces, the product creates a retarding barrier that impedes the advance of flames, facilitating containment and extinguishing operations.
The MAK5 retardant comes in liquid concentrate format, which allows its mixing with water before application. Depending on fire conditions or preventive use, the product can be diluted at approximate ratios of 1:4 to 1:6 with water, whilst maintaining high effectiveness in combustion reduction.
Once prepared, it can be applied through different intervention systems:
- Forest fire tanker trucks
- Tanks or pumping equipment
- Land-based intervention equipment
- Helicopters or fire-fighting aircraft
Thanks to its ability to impregnate plant fuel and provide extensive coverage, the retardant allows optimisation of water efficiency in fire extinguishing operations, reducing evaporation losses and increasing the effectiveness of each discharge.
APPLICATIONS OF MAK5 RETARDANT IN FOREST FIRES
The MAK5 is particularly useful in situations such as:
- Containment of forest fires
- Creation of retarding defence lines
- Preventive protection of forest areas, infrastructure or sensitive areas
- Support in indirect attack operations
- Protection of industrial zones or critical infrastructure in forest environments
In addition, the product does not incorporate pigments in its formulation, which avoids ground colouring after application and facilitates its use in certain operational interventions.
BENEFITS OF MAK5 RETARDANT
- Long-term retardant for forest fires
- Formulation based on ammonium polyphosphates
- Reduces flammability of plant fuel
- Improves water effectiveness in fire extinguishing
- Allows creation of fire defence lines
- Application through land-based equipment and air assets
- Product concentrated for dilution in water
