The color-coded braided straps allow identification of the level of protection offered: yellow for FFP1 (nominal protection factor 4), blue for FFP2 (nominal protection factor 12), and red for FFP3 (nominal protection factor 50). They are designed to fit perfectly with 3M eye and hearing protection products.

REGULATIONS

These products meet the requirements of the European Standard EN 149:2001 + A1:2009, recently amended, for filtering facepiece respirators for use against particles. They should be used to protect the user from solid and non-volatile liquid particles only. The products are classified according to filtration efficiency and maximum total inward leakage performance (FFP1, FFP2, and FFP3), as well as ease of use and resistance to clogging. Performance testing under this standard includes filter penetration; prolonged exposure test (loading); flammability; breathing resistance; and total inward leakage. Reusable products are also subject to mandatory testing for cleaning, storage, and resistance to clogging (clogging is optional for non-reusable products).
