STANDARDS/ REGULATIONS
Standard: EN 362 - Personal protective equipment against falls from height. Connectors.EN 12275:2013 specifies the safety requirements and testing methods for carabiners and connectors used in mountaineering, climbing, and caving. This regulation classifies connectors into different types (such as Type B for basic use, Type H for securing with dynamic knot, or Type K for via ferratas) and establishes the minimum breaking strengths they must withstand both in their major and minor axes and with the trigger open. Its main objective is to ensure that the connector does not fail under the dynamic forces of a fall, also ensuring that the closure system is reliable and that accidental openings do not occur under load.
SERVICE LIFE
The estimated service life of the connector is unlimited. The following factors may reduce the product's service life: intensive use, contact with chemicals, particularly aggressive environments, exposure to extreme temperatures, exposure to ultraviolet rays, abrasion, cuts, strong impacts, or improper use and maintenance.The mandatory annual inspection will validate the correct functioning of the equipment. It is mandatory that the equipment be examined by the manufacturer or an authorized person at least once a year. In the event of having stopped a fall, the equipment must be removed from use.
LIMITATIONS OF USE
- The equipment must be assigned individually to a person.- It is recommended that the anchor point where the fall protection system will be fixed is above the user. The anchor point must have a minimum static strength of 10 kN and must comply with the requirements of Standard EN 795.
- Personal protective equipment should not be used by individuals whose health status may affect the safety of the user under normal use conditions or in case of emergency.
- Personal protective equipment should only be used by a trained and competent person in its safe use.
