NORMATIVE
Complies with the requirements of the Regulation/Directive on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The EN 358 standard regulates belts and anchorage elements for positioning and restraint. Unlike a fall arrest system, this standard is designed for the worker to perform their tasks with their hands free, maintaining a stable and safe position on poles, towers, or structures, or to limit their movements and prevent them from reaching a fall risk area.
APPLICATIONS
Restraint and positioning in high-risk industries such as construction and confined spaces.
USAGE LIMITATIONS
The equipment must be assigned individually to a person.
- It is recommended that the anchorage point where the fall arrest system will be fixed is above the user. The anchorage point must have a minimum static strength of 12 kN (metal) or 18 kN (textile) and must comply with the requirements of the EN 795:1996 / EN 795:2012 standard.
- The personal protective equipment should not be used by individuals whose health condition may affect the safety of the user under normal use conditions or in case of emergency.
- The personal protective equipment should only be used by a trained and competent person in its safe use.
- A fall arrest harness is the only acceptable body holding device that can be used in a fall arrest system.
- The fall protection system must be connected only to the connection points of the harness that carry an identification with the uppercase letter “A”. The identification “A/2” indicates that it is necessary to connect two connection points with the same identification at the same time. It is prohibited to connect the protection system to a single connection point identified with “A/2”.
- In harnesses with an integrated belt, the connection to equipment for positioning work must be made only to the lateral anchorage rings of the belt.
- The connection to the anchorage point and to other equipment must be made through carabiners in accordance with EN362:2004.
- For use with fall arrest systems EN 353-1:2014+A1:2017, EN 353-2:2002, it is recommended to connect the equipment to the frontal anchorage point of the harness. For use with energy absorbers EN 355 or with fall arrest systems EN 360, it is recommended to connect the equipment to the dorsal anchorage point of the harness. - Before each use of the personal protective equipment, it must be carefully checked to ensure that it is in usable condition and functions correctly.
- During the pre-use check, it is necessary to carefully inspect all elements of the equipment to verify that they do not show signs of deterioration, excessive wear, corrosion, abrasions, UV radiation degradation, cuts, and incorrect use. Pay special attention to the straps, seams, anchorage rings, buckles, and adjustment elements.
